An approach for the future of our forests

The problem

4 out of 5 trees are acutely threatened by climate change

Pure forest stands are increasingly susceptible to climate risks and therefore release CO₂. At least ~25% (>3 million ha) of German forests need to be converted.

Autumn Forest
The solution

Forest conversion to climate-resilient mixed forest

Conversion measures such as planting resilient tree species or natural regeneration of the forest stand create climate-resilient mixed forests and store additional CO₂.

Frequently asked

Which project is right for me?

You can obtain further information on the projects via the link in the project overview. There you can find out more about the project activities, the exact location, the impact achieved and much more.
Both the Luckaitztal project and the Schlegel project meet our highest quality standards and are certified by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH in accordance with the ISO 14064-2 standard.

If you cannot decide between the projects, our project portfolio is a good alternative. When you purchase certificates from our project portfolio, we will allocate you credits from the project that requires the most urgent support at the time of purchase. You can find an overview of the possible projects on our forest dashboard.

How does the purchase work?

You can easily purchaseCO2 certificates from Pina Earth projects in our online store.

- Select the desired volume in the selected project.
- Click on the 'Order' button. You will be forwarded directly to the check-out.
- Enter the name of your organization or the name to which the decommissioning certificate is to be issued.
- Enter your contact and payment details and complete the order.
- You will shortly receive confirmation by e-mail from us, including the documents and accesses listed below.

What is a decommissioning certificate and what information is required for it?

At Pina Earth, every climate contribution is accompanied by the retirement of theCO2 certificates purchased (1 certificate = 1 tonne ofCO2).

By retiring, theCO2 certificates you have purchased are deposited in our digital retirement register and thus permanently withdrawn from circulation ("retired"). This ensures that each certificate can neither be reused nor claimed by another company.

To confirm this process, we will create a decommissioning certificate for you and send it to you. For this purpose, we need the name of your organization for which the certificates are purchased to be noted on the decommissioning certificate.

What payment methods are available?

Currently, payment is possible with VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diner's Club, JCB, Union Pay, Apple Pay, or via your browser (Chrome Desktop, Chrome Android, Microsoft Edge for Windows).

If none of the above payment methods are possible for you, please contact us directly via the contact form.

For a total amount of €5,000 or more, a purchase via direct bank transfer is also possible. Please send an email to info@pina.earth stating the selected project(s), the respective volume, the invoice details and the full name to be mentioned in the decommissioning certificate.

What do I get when I buyCO2 certificates here in the online store?

With the purchase ofCO2 certificates in the Pina Earth Online Shop you will receive:

- an official decommissioning certificate for the certificates you have purchased
- access to our digital decommissioning register with your personal page
- access to marketing and communication materials that you can use to communicate your climate contribution.

Are the certificates available in the online store avoidance or removal certificates?

TheCO2 certificates available here are carbon avoidance certificates. If you are interested in purchasing carbon removal certificates, please contact us using the contact form.

Carbon avoidance certificates are generated from one ton ofCO2 that was not emitted into the atmosphere. In our projects, this happens, for example, when fewer trees die as a result of climate change.

Carbon Removal Certificates describe one tonne ofCO2 that has been removed from the atmosphere. In our projects, this happens, for example, through the growth of newly planted trees.

What volume is available via the online store?

Certificate volumes of up to 500 tons are available in the online store. If this does not cover your requirements, please contact us using the contact form below.

What standard are the climate protection projects developed to?

Pina Earth's forest restoration projects are certified according to the ISO 14064-2 standard by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH. TÜV NORD CERT is accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) and by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to validate and verify climate protection projects.

In addition, our forest conversion method is currently in the process of being accredited with the Forest Climate Standard.

What type of project does Pina Earth offer?

There are three main categories for nature-based solutions: Forest conservation, reforestation and improved forest management. Pina Earth's projects fall into the category of improved forest management.

Forest protection is hardly applicable in Europe, as hardly any illegal deforestation takes place.

Afforestation plays an important role in climate change. However, Europe has a high population density and there are not many areas available for effective afforestation.

Meanwhile, improved forest management is of great importance, as in Germany alone 25% of the total forest (3 million hectares) needs to be converted. The conversion of endangered pure stands into more climate-resistant, species-rich forests is therefore an urgent task that Pina Earth is focusing on.

How does Pina Earth ensure additionality?

The additionality criterion means that a project would not have been developed without the additional revenue from the carbon market. Pina Earth carefully assesses whether a project is additional and only develops projects where additionality is given. More specifically, there are three types of additionality that Pina Earth assesses:

1) Legal additionality: At the outset of Pina Earth's projects, the planned measures are not mandated by laws, regulations or ordinances. Even the scientifically required adaptation rate of 95,000 ha/year by 2050 will not be achieved through legal frameworks alone.

2) Financial additionality: The costs of implementing projects on the project areas during the crediting period exceed the income from project implementation.

3) Climate additionality: The project generates a real and measurable climate impact that is above the performance level of usual practice (reference scenario, baseline or "business-as-usual").

What claim can be made when investing in Pina Earth's climate protection projects?

Companies can communicate their climate contribution publicly. Depending on the project and in consultation with Pina Earth, a Net Zero claim may also be possible. Detailed information can be found on page 4 of this document of the eva foundation's forest climate standard.
