The Munich-based ClimateTech start-up Pina Earth, market leader for certified climate protection projects in German forests, is entering into a long-term partnership with green electricity provider Yello. Together, they are driving forward the conversion of monocultures into climate-resilient mixed forests. To this end, Yello is investing in four forest projects in Germany - with more to follow. The cooperation is already making more than two million square meters of forest "climate-ready" in the long term. The aim is to support the financing of Pina Earth's projects over several years and thus preserve the German forest. Because healthy forests are real climate savers. They bind CO₂, strengthen biodiversity and defy climate change.

Climate protection contribution automatically included in every contract

Since 2025, a climate contribution of 2.50 euros has been automatically included in every new domestic electricity, heating electricity and gas contract concluded with Yello. This amount goes directly to Pina Earth's forest conversion projects. Customers thus automatically support the increase of ecological diversity in existing forests and the reforestation of damaged areas. With the climate contribution to Pina Earth's projects, Yello is thinking climate protection together with its customers and actively involving them - an example that shows how companies can take on a pioneering role.

Dr. Gesa Biermann, founder and Managing Director of Pina Earth, explains: "In Yello, we have gained a partner who sees climate protection not as an obligation, but as an opportunity. This partnership shows how companies can take responsibility and at the same time inspire their customers for real climate protection."

Tech startup meets sustainable energy industry

As a ClimateTech start-up, Pina Earth combines scientific research with digital solutions to precisely calculate the CO₂ storage potential of forests. The company uses recognized forest growth simulations to assess the risks of climate change and predict the positive impact of forest conversion measures. The progress of the projects is documented transparently in the Pina Earth forest dashboard.

The long-term partnership with Yello supports forest owners in financing their measures to adapt to climate change. This creates resilient forests that are preserved as living and recreational areas for future generations. As one of the best-known energy providers in Germany, Yello takes its corporate responsibility seriously and promotes innovative solutions from Pina Earth through this cooperation. With smart technology and the forest owners, Yello is making it easy for consumers to contribute to climate protection through the cooperation. Patrick Bottermann, Head of Sustainability at Yello, adds: "It is important to make positive changes visible on our own doorstep in order to inspire enthusiasm for climate protection. The climate protection contribution is a concrete measure that we implement together with our customers."

About Pina Earth

The digital start-up Pina Earth develops scientifically sound, certified climate protection projects that sustainably convert endangered forest areas and strengthen their biodiversity. With the specially developed forest growth simulation, the additional CO₂ storage potential of the projects can be calculated precisely, taking into account the climate risk. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) named Pina Earth "Digital Start-up of the Year 2024".
