In 2022, we published our first sustainability report. We used this opportunity to make our commitment visible, reflect on our achievements and think about further sustainable initiatives. The goals set in the report have led us to significant milestones in 2023. In the Sustainability Report 2023, we reflect on the progress we have made on our mission to protect German forests from the effects of climate change.

Highlights of 2023: Greater reach, greater impact

Pina Earth develops certified climate protection projects with the aim of transforming forests in Germany into climate-resistant habitats. We offer high-qualityCO2 certificates from native forests that are specifically designed to finance the conversion of monocultures into climate-resistant mixed forests. We reached many milestones last year. By selling our certificates, we were able to successfully finance forest conversion measures on over 3 million square meters.

We also developed two new climate protection projects in Brandenburg and Bavaria in 2023 and added them to our portfolio. Our total project area has thus been expanded to 1,460 hectares by the end of the year, which will be converted into climate-resilient forests over the next 30 years.

2023 was also a year of active participation and partnership. We are convinced that collaboration and a lively exchange with our stakeholders are essential prerequisites for change. Our team was therefore represented at various events such as the German Startup Awards, the Forest Climate Conference, the SZ Sustainability Summit and the Microsoft Sustainability Leader Forum. These events give us a platform to showcase our mission and foster collaborations that amplify our impact.

Sustainability in our company

Pina Earth is an impact company driven by the goal of fighting climate change. While we enable our customers to make an effective climate contribution, we also pay attention to our own impact. Pina Earth's Sustainability Report 2023 outlines how we drive sustainable practices in our company on four levels:

  • Empowering employees and promoting diversity: Our goal is to create an environment where every voice is heard and valued. We believe that diverse life paths enrich our team with unique perspectives and skills. In this way, we see an inclusive team as the foundation of a truly sustainable organization.
  • Close cooperation with local forest owners: Assessing the health of forests and implementing measures to minimize risk and promote diversity requires close collaboration with forest owners. These partnerships not only raise awareness of climate change, but also provide us with valuable feedback to improve our project development.
  • Close cooperation with our customers: We maintain direct contact with our customers to identify their specific needs and align our measures to maximize their climate contribution. Our new forest dashboard provides detailed information on the project's measures and up-to-date insights into project implementation.
  • Sustainable business management: We have established sustainable practices in our day-to-day work in order to minimize and further reduce Pina Earth'scarbon footprint. For example, to conserve resources, we share an office with other start-ups and equip our team with second-hand equipment. Since our foundation in 2021, we have made an annual climate contribution equivalent to Pina Earth'scarbon footprint

Outlook for the coming year

With the publication of our second sustainability report, we aim to increase our transparency and share both our achievements and our ambitions. We will continue to work on increasing the impact of our company without increasing our environmental footprint. The sustainability report serves as a guide for our efforts and ensures that we deliver on our promises.
