Thinking long-term and transforming the economy in a digital and sustainable way - that's what Pina Earth and Pentadoc have in common. To this end, Pentadoc is leading the way with its own sustainability strategy and investing in regional and transparent climate protection with Pina Earth. The company is securing funding for the Schlegel climate protection project for the conversion to a biodiverse mixed forest over five years.

Pentadoc is an independent management consultancy for the digital transformation of companies. With over 25 years of experience from more than 500 projects and a specially developed 5D model, the consultants determine how digitalization can be implemented in your company in a concrete and sustainable way. To this end, 50 consultants work closely with clients across Germany to develop a suitable strategy.

The challenge: being a role model for customers

Pentadoc has developed its own sustainability strategy in order to be a role model for its customers not only in the area of digitalization but also climate protection. To this end, the management consultancy first calculated its own ecological footprint, which includes office energy consumption, business trips, business travel, accommodation, commuting, water and wastewater use, waste generation, paper consumption and hardware. The biggest driver of emissions: business trips. For this reason, Pentadoc has started to convert its vehicle fleet to FINN, which relies on electromobility and offsets the CO2 emissions of combustion vehicles.

"As an innovative company, we have been thinking outside the box and opening up new horizons for our customers and employees since we were founded in 1998. In the current situation, all people and companies must be aware of their responsibility towards society, the environment and the climate. Despite the relatively low energy consumption, it is important to Pentadoc to stand up for greater sustainability at various levels." - Guido Schmitz, Member of the Pentadoc Management Board

For a holistic sustainability strategy, it was also important for Pentadoc to invest in credible climate protection in Germany at the same time. The decision criteria for selecting the climate protection project were also that the method is sound and that the progress of the project can be tracked transparently. You can read more about this on their website.

The solution: Long-term commitment to regional climate protection

In a 5-year commitment, Pentadoc supports the climate protection project 'Schlegel' by Pina Earth. In this project, 470 hectares of spruce forest are being converted into a biodiverse and climate-resilient mixed forest.

To quantify theCO2 storage potential over 30 years, Pina Earth uses current data from the German National Forest Inventory and climate models from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and the forest growth simulation is based on the open source tool TreeGrOSS from the Northwest German Research Institute. All calculations are validated by the independent auditor TÜV Nord and verified with a site visit. Regular project visits and monitoring measure the success of the forest conversion measures over the course of the project. Regular updates are published in the Pina Earth forest project dashboard to ensure transparent tracking of project progress.

With its 5-year commitment, Pentadoc is making an important contribution to the project. New measures are constantly being implemented in the forest over the entire duration of the project, so a long-term commitment makes planning and financing feasible for the forest owners. At the same time, a long-term commitment also brings advantages for Pentadoc: the company can secureCO2 certificates from the same project for several years.

"Pentadoc takes its responsibility towards climate change very seriously, so our goal is to become more sustainable through our daily actions. So it was a logical consequence for us to make an effective climate contribution to our emissions and to do this through a transparent provider like Pina Earth." - Guido Schmitz, member of the Pentadoc Management Board
